Short-form video: a practical starter plan

Short-form video: a practical starter plan

You do not need a studio or a big budget to make short videos that work. You need a few repeatable formats and the habit of posting.

Five formats that work without a studio

  1. How it is made: the process behind your product or service.
  2. Before and after: the result, then how you got there.
  3. Answer a question: one customer question per video.
  4. Myth vs fact: a common misconception in your industry.
  5. Day in the life: your team, your workshop, your shop floor.

The first three seconds

Start with the most interesting thing. Show the result first, or say the surprising line out loud and on screen. Many people decide in the first moments whether to keep watching.

Captions

Many people watch without sound. Add on-screen captions to every video.

Rhythm

Pick a rhythm you can keep, such as two or three videos a week, and stick to it for two months before judging.

What to measure

  • How many viewers stay past the first few seconds
  • Average watch time
  • Saves, shares and profile visits
  • Messages, clicks and enquiries
